No she didn’t!

Can you believe Carrie Underwood called Jessica Simpson fat?

That is FUNNY!  And a GREAT line.  (Yes, I know it’s insulting, but you know you want to read it.)

In times when everybody is talking about the election and the extremely tough economic conditions, this is the perfect escape cover from Life & Style Weekly.

It’s an old-fashioned, hysterical cat-fight.

COVER CRITIQUE: Life & Style’s BABY BOOM COVER

To purchase this issue of Life & Style, click here!

Life & Style has a few good things going for it this week with its BABY BOOM cover.

First, women love tor read stories about other women having babies.  I know that’s obvious.

Plus, Mariah Carey has an incredible group of fans that will buy anything she’s featured on.

On the not so good side of this cover…

Life & Style Serves Up a Big Hollywood Showdown between Brangelina and TomKat!

To buy this issue of Life & Style, click here.

On the positive side, this Life & Style cover is unique.

For years people have talked about the rivalry between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

There were many stories about how Tom was allegedly jealous of Brad over media attention he received when he was starting to “date” Angelina.

Now the mag makes it a feud between Brangelina and TomKat.

The cover presents the two couples as bickering over a bunch of things and now there’s a big showdown.

Here’s the problem.  The story feels more appropriate for Variety than it does for Life & Style.

There’s no love - no emotion.  It’s a work cover!

On another note, Life & Style has two incredible cover story options right on this cover:

PASETSKY PREDICTS: 2008 1/2 Half Newsstand Numbers for Celebrity Weekly Category

Who will be number one on the newsstand?

It looks like People Magazine will retain that title on the newsstand.

But, there is a bit of a shake-up happening in the category when it comes to newsstand sales, which are a key metric for a magazine’s vitality.

Here’s my prediction for the first half of 2008: (This prediction does not include subscription sales):

  1. People Magazine
  2. Us Weekly
  3. InTouch
  4. Star
  5. National Enquirer
  6. OK!
  7. Life & Style
  8. Globe
  9. TV Guide

The official numbers will be out in about a month. But, I bet these are pretty on target.

LIFE & STYLE HEDGES ITS BETS WITH “FRIENDS FEAR” JESSICA SIMPSON DUMPED COVER!

Pasetsky’s Cover Critique

How do you know that a magazine doesn’t know for sure if its story is true?

The big tip-off on this cover is the line above the main line “DUMPED AGAIN,” which says “Friends Fear Jessica Got.”

When a magazine says something like this “Friends Fear” it’s a clear indication that the editors are not 100 percent sure that the story is TRUE.

So what you’ll get is a lot of insiders saying that they “think its over.” Plus - of course, you’ll get the obligatory rep denial.

On another note, I question the editorial judgement of Life & Style.

IS JEN ANISTON MAKING A MISTAKE DATING JOHN MAYER?

lsbritney.jpg

While John Mayer has dated a ton of other famous celebrity women, Jen Aniston isn’t worried about that, according to Life & Style.

“She doesn’t judge on that kind of thing…She’s looking for someone who has his own thing going on.”

“John has an exciting career, and that’s more important to her than how many women he’s dated.”

LIFE & STYLE SAYS “BRITNEY SPEARS & KEVIN FEDERLINE REUNITING!”

Pasetsky’s Cover Review

Compared to sister publication In Touch which features exclusive photos of Jen Aniston and John Mayer, this will be a tough week for Life & Style.

On a positive note, this is one of the better compilation photos created by a celebrity weekly of Britney’s boys.

And “Welcome Home, Mommy!” is a sweet, emotional line.

But overall…
