It’s been a big 24 hours in the world of politics.
First we had Barack Obama’s historic speech and now John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin:
We asked Lesley Jane Seymour if she felt readers of More Magazine (for 40 plus women) will vote for Barack after his speech:
“I think Barack Obama threw a lot of love at women last night and at women over 40 in particular. Not only did he give a shout out to Hillary (which he didn’t have to) but the underlying theme was women: his mother who, when she died, brought on the worst day of his life; his paean to his grandmother who raised him and who is “one of my heroes.” His intimate photos of him and michelle–his love note to his two daughters who were there watching him,” says Seymour.
“A lot of his issues were molded from watching the difficulty the women who raised him go through: his mother having to fight the insurers on her sick bed; his grandmother having to work several jobs so he could go to school. And then, to big cheers, he mentioned paying teachers more and equal pay for equal work. Women still earn 77 cents to a man’s dollar ,” adds Seymour. “He gave women’s issues utmost importance last night and I think women over 40 will respond.”

CoverAwards just spoke with Alaska Magazine’s Editor Tim Woody and he provided us with some insight regarding the new Republic party’s VP candidate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
“She’s a fast rising star in the Republican party,” said Woody. “She’s genuinely a nice person. She’s hard not to like. She was honored and thrilled to be on the cover of our magazine.”
“Politically, she’s been known as a maverick. She has been a loud voice for ethical standards and has not been afraid to call Republicans on the carpet,” adds Woody.
When she won the position of Governor of Alaska, she sold the private jet purchased by the previous governor and let go of the chef inside the governor’s mansion.

A mother of five, it was shown in doctor’s prenatal tests that her son Trig Paxson would be born with Down syndrome. While studies in the late 90s showed that more than 80 percent of prenatal Down syndrome diagnoses end in abortion, Sarah chose to have the child.
