Now that she’s proved herself as an actress and as singer, Scarlett Johannson ready to take on directing, according to Nylon Magazine.

She has just wrapped her first short film (which she also wrote) - New York, I Love You, the Big Apple counterpart to 2007’s Paris, Je T’aime. Although she won’t divulge any plot details, her segment, which stars Kevin Bacon (”He was my dream lead for it: He’s such a delicate, understated, fine actor”) was filmed in Coney Island, and she’s overjoyed with the result.

“It was so cool,” she says. “It was interesting to see, ‘OK, I can do this.”

“People are so quick to categorize you and stick you in a little box,” Scarlett Johansson tells Nylon Magazine.

“And I don’t ever want to feel shut in by expectations or responsibility to an image. I just want to do what interests me, and what makes me happy.”

“…I really just want to continue to make movies that I’d pay to see.

I don’t really think about what the right career move is,” says Scarlett Johannsson.

Boy band members beware.

You do not have a fan in Scarlett Johansson.

“..When I was in high school, new music was so crap.

It was that whole boy band nightmare time. Yech. I never listened to any of that. I hated all that poppy girl power stuff.”

Scarlett Johansson grew up mostly in NYC’s diverse Greenwich Village, when it was still just the old gay bars and families and artists, before it became an outdoor mall, reports Nylon.

“I think growing up in the city kind of prepares you for any situation,” she says. “Nothing is too shocking.”

“I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘I’ve never seen any of your movies. I actually don’t watch movies. What have you been in again?”

“I just wanted to do something that I would be proud of and my friends would enjoy,” says Scarlett Johansson in the new issue of Nylon.

She adds, “I got so lucky having Bowie on the album.  It was my 13-year-old fantasy come true.”
