JT did such a great job as host of the ESPY Awards, that according to reports the Oscar organizers are “suddenly interested in JT serving as the host of the Academy Awards.”
This would be huge for him.
Do you think he’s ready?
Welcome to this week’s edition of Pasetsky’s Predictions!
For those of you new to the site, this is the time of the week I take a stab at predicting the major topics of the upcoming celebrity weeklies. Check back on Wednesday to see how I did.
Here are this week’s predictions:
Angelina Jolie — Yup, she’s pregnant and showed off her bump on the red carpet. So what do the celebrity weeklies do to take the story forward? One will try to bring Jen back into the mix (similar to OK’s issue a few weeks ago). Another may focus solely on Angie’s baby joy and how she’s always happier when she’s pregnant. Then there’s the Jen cover, where Jen looks like she’s ready to rip her hair out!
J. Lo - Too soon (I think) for People to have their photo shoot of J. Lo’s new twins! But you never know. Expect one of the other weeklies (who don’t have 4-6 million dollars to spend on the photos) to do a cover story on J. Lo’s moment of joy, e.g. all the details and how she wants even more kids. Plus, how her dream finally came true!
Britney - She finally saw her kids this weekend and Kevin supported the reunion! A positive story and one that an editor will go for as a full cover. Especially if you are trying to counter program against the big Angelina and J. Lo news. Plus, the NY Times piece we reported on earlier today will get one of the editors to think about a financially driven cover, e.g. Fight Over Britney’s Millions!
Oscars — Expect a major inset on most of the weeklies featuring the best and worst looks from the Oscars. Red was the big color of the nite so look for somone like Katherine Heigl in red to be on that inset! It’d be nice to see a full cover of this year’s event, but since that type of issue hasn’t sold well in years, I wouldn’t bet on it!
But No to Oscar Party
As the new issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands, the bigger news is that EIC Graydon Carter cancelled this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party, according to the New York Times.
“A magazine like Vanity Fair is a group of writers and artists, and we are in solidarity with the writers and artists out there,” Mr. Carter said. “Whether the strike is over or not, there are a lot of bruised feelings. I don’t think it’s appropriate for a big magazine from the East to come in and pretend nothing happened.”
