It was a good holiday for Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.

Their movie, Four Christmases, led the box office with about $31.7 million in ticket sales.

What about Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman?

Despite Hugh Jackman being named People’s sexiest man alive and Nicole Kidman’s press tour, their movie Australie came in fifth place taking in a paltry $14.8 million, according to reports.

My immediate reactions:

Not the best picture of Reese Witherspoon.  (Is she starting to look like Madonna or is that just me?)

What a strange headline?!? (Back on Top)

It appears like this is a trade cover at first glance vs a celebrity weekly.  The dek saves it a little but I’m not sure if the main line will grab the average newsstand buyer.

Many readers do like Reese but not so sure how much they care about her relationship with Jake.

“Family is all we have in life, but I don’t know how I feel about marriage,” says the Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming issue of Parade Magazine.

Reese has been dating Jake Gyllenhaal off-and-on since last year.

“Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again. You sort of reconstitute your family. You find a family with people who come into your life for a reason.”

“They are not engaged, getting married or any of the reports,” the reps said this evening, calling the reports “lies.”

This cover is what Us Weekly is all about.

Stars really are like us. (Bonnie Fuller created that vision for Us Weekly and Janice Min continues to ride on her coattails.)

In the past, I haven’t been a fan of this story because I don’t think a lot of readers are talking about this couple.

But this cover photo is a winner and will walk off the newsstand. And, in the celebrity weekly category newsy photos like this are rare.

On another note, you can tell that the In Touch and Us Weekly did not have strong sales with the Madonna-A-Rod covers from last week.

Yesterday, I critiqued the cover of Us Weekly and basically called it a total disaster.

Well, the inside story doesn’t get much better. I actually fell asleep reading it.

According to the minor league news gathering organization that finds it difficult to communicate directly with a major A-list star these days, “Jake Gyllenhaal has moved into her [Reese Witherspoon] $5 million L.A. home and is already part of her fiercely guarded family, helping her raise her two kids, Ava, 8 and Deacon, 4….

Jake keeps his things at Reese’s house and uses it as his home base most of the time,” an INSIDER tells Us.

Translation: Like many in a relationship, Jake has a draw in Reese’s house (or maybe a few draws) and stays there a lot. This IS NOT NEWS AND IS DEFINITELY NOT A COVER STORY.
