ROBERT DOWNEY JR. GETS TITLE ROLE IN SHERLOCK HOLMES

Robert Downey Jr. is trading Iron Man’s metal suit for Sherlock Holmes’ deerstalker hat, reports the A.P.

Downey is following his action blockbuster “Iron Man” with the title role in “Sherlock Holmes,” a mystery drama based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective and an upcoming comic-book about Holmes by Lionel Wigram, one of the movie’s producers.

Top Newssweek staffers are “said to be envious of their rivals at Time over the annual Time 100 celeb-fest, which draws the world’s biggest names for an evening of black-tie admiration,” according to Page Six.

Last week’s Time event drew Robert Downey Jr, John McCain, Mariah Carey and others.

“It’s not fair,” complained one mag vet to  Page Six.  “Time butters up all these bigwigs and then gets access.”

Matthew Klam, GQ’s correspondent who interviewed Robert Downey Jr., for this cover story got a little more than he bargained for when he challenged him to Wing Chun kung fu.

“So when I tried to punch him, he [Downey Jr.] does what he’s learned to do.  I don’t actually even remember getting punched in the face.  It’s Downey who notices. 

“Hey, you’re bleeding,” he says.  He asks if I want ice.

And then Downy looks at my wound again.  “Feels good,” he says.  “Doesn’t it.”"
