THOMAS ROBERTS RESPONDS TO MANHUNT PHOTO CONTROVERSY

On Roberts’ fourth day at his new gig as reporter for The Insider, someone posted photos of him on Manhunt.

That was followed with a ton of scandalous press including a Page Six item “New Sex Mess Jolts Insider.”

Roberts response, “I never put inappropriate pictures of myself on a public web site,” he tells The Advocate.

And The Insider calls the incident, “a malicious personal attack.”

JON BARRETT NAMED EIC OF THE ADVOCATE

Here! Networks named Jon Barrett as Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate and Advocate.com

He replaces 15-year vet Anne Stockwell.

In a company statement Barrett says, “The Advocate has always mirrored the needs of its readership, whether that meant advancing the explosive push for civil rights in the 1960s, documenting the heady liberation of the 1970s, or assuming the serious—and necessary—mantle of newsmagazine in the 1980s and ‘90s.”

THE ADVOCATE MISSES ITS OWN BIG STORY

Why Didn’t Editor-in-Chief Anne Stockwell Focus on Gay Marriage?

img041.jpg

Bette Midler angered many gays when she did not openly support Gay marriage on Larry King Live in 2003.

On the show she “wondered outload whether gay men want to commit to traditional monogamous marriage…”

According to the Advocate, many gay fans were upset.  “We made her,” their argument went.  “She should have supported us, no questions asked.”

In all fairness, Bette Midler started her career singing in gay bathhouses?  Is it so surprising that she had this thought that gay men would not want to live in a monogomous marriage?

The cover of this issue of the Advocate touches upon this issue, but it’s the BIG STORY here.  Why didn’t they make this the focus of the cover?

Especially since Bette seems to have a change of heart!  Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

Advocate:  Let’s talk about same-sex marriage.  How are you feeeling about the issue now?  Because there have been hurt feelings - people feel you weren’t on their side.

Bette: “…I think people should be able to commit themselves to the people that they love.   I have no problem with it whatsoever.
