Cheezy headline by yours truly - but it’s true.

This is a perfectly timed cover and topic choice by Us Weekly.

While the rest of the category focused on the usual suspects, Us goes for the hottest story of the week - The Olympics.

Plus, they made an even smarter move by focusing on the gymnastic stars Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin (while still including Michael Phelps as an inset.)

Why is this such a shrewd move?

In a year that looks like Us Weekly will have it’s lowest newsstand numbers in recent memory, Janice Min takes a risk and features Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as the main cover story for the magazine.

I think this is also the first time a national weekly has featured the couple on its cover.

I hope it works for them but…
