Barack Obama’s campaign raised a record breaking $10 million last night at a series of events last night in Hollywood and Los Angeles.

The events cost $2,500 each per-person and included a steak dinner.  Barbara Streisand and Ben Harper perfomred and audience members included Quincy Jones, Pierce Brosnan and Jamie Foxx. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Foster, Tobey Maguire, Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Larry David, Jamie Lee Curtis and Steven Spielberg were also in attendance.

The flick stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Will you see it?

The movie is about two spoiled guys become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents get hitched.

DO YOU KNOW WHO THESE GUYS ARE?

The editors of Complex obviously think their readers don’t know who Will Ferrell and Andre 3000 are!  How do I know this?  They have their names as the largest type in that hideous purple graphic.

Lesson of the day!   If you know your readers, use cover topics they can identify visually.   If your readers can’t identify them simply by seeing their photo, then they are not the right people to put on your cover.

Is Portfolio’s Editor-in-Chief Joanne Lipman trying to scare me?  I’m glad I’m safe and sound here - I think???  I  would suggest a clearer cover line.  I’m not so sure ” Spy vs. Spy”  makes sense.  In the end, at least Portfolio lightens the cover up with a story about Will Ferrell!
