CRAZY SCARY: Cancer by Simply Using Your Cell Phone
By now you’ve heard about the study by a cancer research institute that warned its faculty and staff to limit their use of mobile phones because of the possible risk of cancer.
Should you be worried?
Barack Obama is BIG Seller on the Newsstand
This issue of The Week is the latest in the string of Barack Obama Magazine covers to hit the newsstand.
And, that’s not surprising. Especially after seeing the 250,000 (the number keeps going up!) person crowd in Berlin yesterday or learning that bombshell Pam Anderson threw her boobs support behind Barack Obama.
Last week’s controversial cover of the New Yorker was a virtual sell-out on newsstands with early estimates at 75,000 up from the weekly average of 43,000, reports the NY Post. (Most copies are sold via subscription.)
For Us Weekly, the cover featuring Obama and his wife Michelle sold between 900,000 and 1 million, above the magazine’s 800,000 weekly newsstand average.
Obama is also on the cover of the recent double issue of Rolling Stone, which could sell as many as 250,000, also above the magazine’s newsstand average for double issues.
Said a spokeswoman for Time, “Of our five covers featuring Obama and/or Hillary Clinton. . . this year, they either sold significantly above average or above average. On the other hand, the John McCain cover this year sold just below average, reports the NY Post.

THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD WORK FROM HOME (IF WE CAN!)
The Week asks “Will $4-a-gallon gas change our ways?”
For corporate executives, this price of gas reaching this incredibly high price is merely an annoyance.
For their employees, it’s a big piece of their paycheck.
It’s time for corporate America to do everything they can to help out their employees.
Here are some of my suggestions:
- It’s time to let anyone that can work from home start do so. This applies especially to those in publishing. With technology, it’s easier than ever for writers and editors to work from home.
- For those that can’t and MUST be in the office, employers should begin to pro-actively help arrange carpools among employees in their company.
- I’d even suggest experimenting with four-day work weeks. I’m sure many employees would work a few extra hours during the week to make this a reality!
What do you think? How can corporate America help employees out as gas prices continue to soar?
NO MOVES LEFT FOR HILLARY CLINTON?
After today’s DNC meeting, Hillary Clinton pretty much must know the game is up.
Democratic party officials approved a deal Saturday to seat delegates from the disputed Florida and Michagin primaries with half a vote each, dealing a blow to Senator Hillary Clinton, reports the NYT.
HILLARY CLINTON RUNNING ON EMPTY?
Hillary tried the gas tax holiday as her big pitch to voters and it backfired.
And here you have the new cover of The Week playing off that big mistake.
How much longer can she go in this campaign?
Your thoughts?
JOHN MCCAIN: CAN HE TAKE A PUNCH?
Pasetsky Op-Ed
Is John McCain lucky or unlucky?
While the Democrats battle it out, many pundits have said that this bickering between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is only helping John McCain.
I disagree.
This massive amount of attention has attracted record numbers of new voters to the Democratic party.
Plus, both candidates are now battle-tested and will be able to handle anything the Republican (Karl Rove) machine throws their way.
Will the supporters of Barack or Hillary vote Republican if their candidate loses?
I don’t think so.
What we will soon find out once there is a Democratic nominee is whether or not John McCain will be able to “take a punch.”
This country is in middle of the the worst economic crisis in years and what does John McCain promise?
Four more years of Bush policies.
Is that what we want?
What do you think?
OBAMA’S GUTTER BALL COST HIM PENNSYLVANIA!
Pasetsky’s Cover Critique
This cover is pure genius.
Using the Barack Obama bowling incident and placing Hillary as one of the pins is one of the most creative, original political covers I’ve seen this year.
To me it represents not only the bowling incident, but how Barack Obama has not been able to finish this election. In a way, it appears like he’s choking and this is why Hillary’s standing.
That’s why this election is not over yet.
Which magazine will play off of Hillary doing shots?
Bottom Line: Thank you EIC William Falk for delivering a unique cover. It made my day.
